Have you ever looked at an empty jar or bottle and thought, you could be so much cuter? Same. That’s exactly what inspired this little project. A fabric vase that slips over any jar or bottle and instantly turns it into a sweet, happy home for your flowers.

It’s kind of like a tea cosy, but for blooms instead of brews. It will instantly brighten up a corner of your home - no ceramic skills needed!

This project is such a joy to make. It’s simple, satisfying, and a great way to use up those fabric offcuts you’ve been saving (you know the ones... too small to make anything big, too cute to throw away). It comes together quickly and is perfect for a weekend afternoon sew. You can keep it minimal with one fabric, go scrappy and mix your favourites, or what about adding a decorative stitch or some ric rac? The result is bound to be cheerful and cute!

I happened to have these super lovely fabric scraps leftover from the Close to My Heart Project that have been hand painted by artists Claire Ritchie and Emily McDuff. They really look lovely as vases.

DIY Fabric Vase Tutorial

In the video, I’ll walk you through the whole process step-by-step, from how to use the template, to tips on choosing fabrics, adding structure, and styling it with jars or bottles you already have at home. It’s beginner-friendly, but still fun if you’ve been sewing for a while and want a quick creative project.

Materials required:

• Fabric for the main (2 pieces roughly 35x35cm)

• Fabric for the lining (2 pieces roughly 35x35cm)

• Style-Vil or quilting batting (2 pieces roughly 35x35cm)

• Bias binding

• Sewing machine and basic sewing supplies

You can grab the printable template below. It includes 2 vase shapes and is set up to be printed at A4 paper size. Hit 'fit to page' just to be sure and don't forget to check the measurements to make sure it will work for your jar or bottle. FYI this template is not for commercial use.

These fabric vases also make lovely little gifts, especially if you pop in some fresh flowers or dried blooms. I’ve got these two scattered around my house now, and they bring me a surprising amount of joy for something so simple.

I hope you have fun making yours! If you do give it a try, I’d love to see - tag me on Instagram or leave a comment on the video. Happy stitching!

With love,
